What's in the can recipes?
We wanted to create a Backyard Brewhouse can range ... so Jon, Mike and Austen got together to brainstorm a few ideas, over a few beers (naturally!).
We all like six-packs, so the first idea was to have six beers, all different styles, with different ABVs - in short something for everybody. With some initial ideas on the whiteboard, Jon got to work on the detailed recipes for six different beers that included a Pale Ale, Session IPA, Stout, Juicy Pale, West Coast IPA and a Double IPA.
The Ripple is our Pale Ale, and at a low 3.2% ABV, it is great for all day parties. Our idea was to have a very easy drinking and smooth beer. It is quite a challenge to get the right balance of flavour and mouth feel into lower ABV beers. The Ripple doesn't disappoint with a medium body and refreshing citrus and pine finish.
You can never go wrong with kicking off a Saturday afternoon with a Session IPA, and the 52 Degrees North ticks all the right boxes, with a balanced hoppy feel and cool 4.4% ABV.
Embankment is our Coffee Milk Stout. It is not easy to get the right amount of coffee into a beer. We teamed up with one of the best local coffee roasters to get the highest quality coffee into the beer with the sweet taste of vanilla for balance. No need for a cappuccino after lunch, crack open an Embankment and you'll get the coffee boost you need to cut through any 3 course spread. At an easy drinking 4.4% ordering a second will be easy to do.
The Juicy Pale is called Hit for Six because it packs in six different hop varieties. We wanted to create a beer bursting with flavour at a subtle ABV of 5.3%. The six hops bring a combination of fruity flavours from citrus to tropical, so it feels like summer all year long.
We all love American styles, so we couldn't leave out a West Coast IPA. The 3 States is a nod to the US style with all American hops. Like our American cousins it is loud and proud bursting with the flavours of Washington State and is very drinkable at 5.7%.
To round off our six-pack we have designed a big hitting double dry hopped IPA. While it packs quite a punch at 6.5%, it is big on flavour that will cut through any curry like a hot knife through butter.
As the saying goes, all great things come in six packs (... ok, we made that up, however great things do come in small packages). We think we've achieved the right balance with the new can series, with something for everyone.
Enjoy and Cheers!
